Important Client Information

Acrylic Nails have had their fair and justified share of bad press, however Acrylic Nails are fantastic when the right products are applied by fully trained Nail Technicians.

At Institut de beauté, we only use the most appropriate and best products from approved and well known suppliers.

To simplify, Acrylic nails are made with two substances - a liquid and a powder which form together to create the acrylic nails. The approved and correct liquid is EMA (Ethyl Methacrylate). The other and damaging liquid contains MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) which has been banned by the FDA

Why would Salons / Nail technicians use MMA - in our opinion, there can only be 3 reasons, (1) Ignorance, (2) Not fully trained or (3) the Costs - MMA is significantly cheaper than EMA

Then why should MMA not be used? There are four main reasons:

1. MMA nail products do not adhere well to the nail plate. To make these products adhere, nail technicians often shred up (etch) the surface of the nail. This thins the nail plate and makes it weaker.
2. MMA creates the hardest and most rigid nail enhancements, which makes them very difficult to break. When jammed or caught, the overly filed and thinned natural nail plate will often break before the MMA enhancement, leading to serious nail damage.
3. MMA is extremely difficult to remove. Since it will not dissolve in product removers, it is usually pried from the nail plate, creating still more damage.
4. The FDA says don't use it! This is clearly the most important reason. The FDA bases their prohibition on the large number of consumer complaints resulting from the use of MMA nail enhancements in the late 70's and they continue to maintain this position today.

Q.What Nails should I have?

A.It really depends on what results are sought or occasion is being catered for. In addition, it is important to have an understanding of a clients nail type and the condition and also what daily/weekly routines they might be exposed. Institut de beauté is more than happy to discuss and advise on options.

Bio Sculpture® Gel ~ produces a beautiful and classy finish in a wonderful array of colours. Great for adding length or just improving the look (and strength) of your own nails. As well as being non-chip, it is also flexible and versatile, perfect for those special occasions. Ideal for toes as well – holidays / summer or just showing off!
.ibd. ~ is a medium strength durable nail enhancer; very good for nail biters and those who hands are exposed to some of the usual daily activities. Available in clear, pink or french and can be painted.
Acrylic nails ~ are the hardest / most durable nail. Excellent for people who want long nails or those whose hands are always working.
